Methylene Blue and Long COVID

Updated: Aug 7

One of my patients shared that her symptoms of Long COVID has improved drastically after being treated with methylene blue for about one month. Her areas of improvements included fatigue, brain fog, and muscle pain. Since attending a conference in Jan of 2024 through IMS 24 NYC, I have been prescribing methylene blue to selected patients.

Long COVID is when someone has symptoms from COVID-19 that last a long time, even after they are no longer sick with the virus.

What is Long COVID?

When most people get COVID-19, they usually feel better after a few weeks. But for some, the symptoms stick around for months. This is called Long COVID, or sometimes Post-COVID. It means that even though the virus is gone, the effects are still there.

What Are the Symptoms?

The symptoms of Long COVID can vary, but here are some common ones:

  • Tiredness: Feeling very tired all the time, even after sleeping.

  • Breathing Problems: Shortness of breath or trouble breathing.

  • Brain Fog: Difficulty thinking clearly, focusing, or remembering things.

  • Muscle and Joint Pain: Aching or sore muscles and joints.

  • Sleep Problems: Trouble sleeping or staying asleep.

  • Headaches: Frequent or severe headaches.

  • Heart Issues: Feeling like your heart is racing or beating irregularly.

Who Can Get Long COVID?

Anyone who had COVID-19 can get Long COVID, even if their initial illness was mild. It can happen to young people, older people, healthy individuals, and those with other health issues. It doesn't matter if you were in the hospital or not.

Why Does It Happen?

Doctors and scientists are still studying Long COVID to understand why it happens. They believe it could be due to how the virus affects the body and the immune system. Sometimes, the body’s fight against the virus can cause lingering effects.
